The movement, step by step.

  1. Attach one handle to a high pulley and stand side-on with feet wider than hip-width. Hold the handle in both hands near the machine-side shoulder.
  2. Brace lightly and keep arms long with a soft elbow bend.
  3. Guide the handle diagonally toward the opposite hip as the trunk and hips rotate together; allow a natural foot pivot.
  4. Return slowly along the same diagonal, keeping control rather than allowing the stack to whip you back. Train both directions.

Technique cues

  • Move the hips and rib cage as a coordinated unit.
  • Keep a smooth diagonal path.
  • Start light enough to stop at any point.

Common mistakes

  • Planting the feet rigidly and twisting only the lower back.
  • Yanking the cable with the arms and losing trunk control.

Educational guidance, not an individual training prescription. Start with a manageable load, work within a comfortable range, and stop if a movement causes pain. Ask a qualified coach for help with an unfamiliar setup. Practice the technique before increasing load. Repetitions and working weight depend on your goals, experience, and individual needs.
