Build and use routines

Keep the workouts you repeat, with the sets and weights to aim for.

Open your routines

In Log Exercise, tap + → Routines. Each routine shows what it holds (“3 exercises”) and its notes; Exercises & targets opens the plan. Tap Start to load it, or the ··· menu for Edit, Duplicate and Delete (tap Delete twice to remove it). With two or more routines, a search box finds one by its name or by an exercise in it.

The Routines sheet: a search box, + New routine, then each routine with what it holds, its notes, Start and a menu.
Your routines: Start one, or open the menu to edit, duplicate or delete it.

Build a routine

  1. Tap + New routine and give it a name (“Lower A”, “Push Day”).
  2. Tap + Add exercises, tick as many as you like — Recent lists the ones you log, newest first — and tap Add.
  3. Give each exercise its targets: Sets, Reps (a range like 8 to 10 if you like), Load in lb, kg, % of 1RM, RPE or bodyweight, Rest and a short Note. Cardio takes a time (minutes and seconds) and a distance instead.
  4. Use ↑ and ↓ to change the order, ✕ to remove one, and + Add a WOD for a workout of the day.
  5. Tap Save routine.
The routine builder: a name, notes, then Barbell - Back Squat with Sets 3, Reps 5, Load 160 lb and Rest 3:00.
Each exercise has its own targets. Leave any box empty.

Save a day as a routine

Logged a session you want to repeat? On that day tap + → Save as routine. The builder opens with everything you did, in order, and each lift’s targets already filled in from the sets you just did (3 × 5 @ 225 lb). Name it, change anything you like and save.

Start a routine

Tap Start and the routine sits at the top of your day. Each exercise shows its targets and Last time — what you did the time before. Tap Log and the form opens with your sets, reps and weight filled in from the targets (a % 1RM or RPE target is shown, not turned into a weight); change anything to match what you actually did and save. An exercise is ticked off only once it is saved, and the routine stays until you tap Clear, even if you close the app.

A started routine: each exercise numbered, with its targets, what you did last time and a Log button.
Each exercise shows its targets and what you did last time.

Update the routine from today

When every exercise is done and today’s sets differ from the targets, the routine asks Update {routine} with today’s sets? and names the exercises that changed. Update routine writes today’s sets, reps and top weight in as the new targets (your rest times and notes stay); Keep as is leaves it alone. It asks once a day, and never for a routine from your coach.

Common questions

Do targets change what I record?

No. They only fill in the form so you don’t have to type. You always record what you actually lifted, and that is what counts for your history, PRs and leaderboards.

Can I change a routine my coach sent me?

A routine marked From Coach is your coach’s plan: you can start it or delete it, but only your coach can change it, so it has no Edit or Duplicate and never asks to update. To make your own version, log the session and use Save as routine.

Does the phone app have routines too?

Yes. In the app, open Workouts, tap + → Routines: you can build, edit, duplicate, delete and start routines with the same targets, and they are the same routines you see on the website.
